Bluesman

With the approach of the summer festival circuit, Q has released an alternate take of the title track of his new record due out in September. Q had this to say about the song:

"Bluesman was written at about 2 in the morning after I had watched the movie Crazy Heart. It is really about the journeyman performer. The guy who after 20 years still wants to be relevant, but everywhere he goes people just want him to play the hits. I guess it is also about independent musical interpretation. We live in an age where we are told what is good and what is not. There was a time when the songs stood up and received on their own for what they were, not on the strength of a marketing campaign. At the end of the day, Adam Young's producing instinct had us visit a style along the lines of a T Bone Burnett. There have been some great records that he has produced over the last few years including Kris Kristofferson and Steve Earle. We really drew on those records for inspiration of this new tune. We chose to release an alternate take as it is really relevant for where I am as an artist. In the summer we play the big stages and the rodeo dances, and in the winter I guess you get more of the singer/songwriter blues. I would not be in a headspace to release a song like this in July or August as you are on such a high from playing with great players on great stages. In the winter I am more apt to pull out my mouth harp and play sad country songs. I guess I have a seasonal aspect to my writing. Either way, I am really proud of how raw and real the tune is."

Manitoba Stampede

Hanover Ag High School Rodeo

The rising stars of Manitoba rodeo will be in the spotlight over May Long Weekend as the Hanover Ag Society hosts their second annual High School Rodeo.  As a strong advocate of youth rodeo in South Eastern Manitoba, Quinton has agreed to perform on Sunday May 20 in a campfire style performance.  "This is the second year in a row that I have been involved, and I am certainly glad to support these kids.  Hanover Ag Society has done such a marvelous job in keeping rodeo vibrant in the community.  They have done a great job with the new rodeo arena, and I am excited to get there again this year."  Q is joined at this performance by good friend and side man Adam Young for an accoustic show.  Gate admission is $5.
